The Last Supper

Tonight we had my mom, Sarah and Mark over to celebrate the last official family dinner in the 'old house'. Mark teased he wished he had thought of bringing over a can of spray paint to paint the kitchen before it got demo'd in 3 weeks. Wouldn't that be fun, ha ha....

What started out as a funny suggestion turned into reality when I grabbed the drawer of markers from the desk and we attacked the bare white walls, cabinets and floor. Anything from 'chalk drawings' to aliens to famous quotes appeared in quick enough time (Ledder even got a doggie door!).

We spent nearly 2 hours and invited our good friend Alison over to join in the shenanigannery (see what a little wine and Sailor Jerry will do, kids?!). When I figure out how to post pictures to this thing, I will... but they really don't do the real thing justice. If you have time to stop by before August 17th, I highly suggest you do and be sure to put your mark down too!

Dave and I have realized that we really 'are' grown ups.....

Last night, we took a trip to Appliance Direct (for all you Floridians out there, you know it by the woman in the ill-fitting green/yellow plaid suit and the Asian gentleman telling you 'If you paid direct, you paid too much'). We both dreaded heading in there, but for grins and giggles, wanted to see what we'd find. Dave had already gone to SE Steel and found a line of GE appliances that he liked. Guess what?! After about an hour of searching, we found a complete line of Kitchenaid stainless steel appliances (range, microwave, fridge and dishwasher). Even bigger bonus? Fridge and dishwasher were in the box! WOOOO!

We happily skipped out of AD, knowing that we had already saved $1500 from our budget. But wait... skipping stopped... where exactly were we going to put said new appliances? Oh, dear!

Problem solved with a quick call to the POD people and the POD was promptly delivered at 6pm tonight! It was the craziest thing- a flatbed truck with the POD on it pulled in, then pulled out, leaving the POD dangling on this hoist device. The delivery man had some MAD skills, I tell ya! He manuevered the POD into the corner of our driveway (with Dave holding up the powerlines with a broom- ha ha). Our new appliances (which were delivered this morning and are still as dazzling as they were in the showroom) are the first inhabitants of the POD. Guess we should start packing now?

So, Dave and I have decided to go ahead with the kitchen re-model project. Our contractor, Mike was over last night with the proposed contract and, after talking it over, Dave just called Mike and we are all set to go!

On the agenda? Tearing down the wall that separates the kitchen from the living room and making it into a bar, removing the popcorn ceiling from the living room (thank God!), new cabinets and appliances in the kitchen, moving the door from the carport from the side to the back of the carport, new flooring throughout the entire house (minus the bedrooms and the bathroom) and..... well, I think that's it for now, right?

We are very excited and can't wait to see how this all progresses. As of right now, demo is tentatively set for August 17th (Monday). I've decided to blog about our adventures and see how it all goes. I'm naturally a gifted talker, let's hope I'm just as good of a writer!
